Walking around the glacier lagoon Jokursarlon is an amazing experience. It is not difficult to reach this place at all, since the lagoon is located just next to the main highway on the South coast of Iceland. However, this place looks wonderful and spectacular for ordinary visitor; it creates a real challenge for photographers. It is quite difficult to find simple and interesting composition, which would reveal the spirit of this place. After spending whole night walking around the lake and observing hundreds of different icebergs I found this simple composition early in the morning. It might have also been result of my very tired mind, but I found so interesting how these little iceberg were flying in the reflected sky. I was waiting for a while until clouds did cover the sky and provide even more abstract feeling to the picture.

South coast of Iceland is very well known for its black sand beaches, which provide endless opportunities for landscape photographers, black and white especially. This particular beach is very close to the Jokursarlon lagoon and majority of the sole icebergs find the end of their long journey there. Some of them are immediately flushed by the ocean and some are returned by hide tide to the beach and slowly melting. This particular morning there were not many of those icebergs on the beach so it was not difficult to find subject of interest? Even though it is not obvious from the photograph, this iceberg was pretty large and I was able to fully hide myself behind it, while Marek was photographing it. This composition came straight to mine mind when I saw this scene. Placing iceberg to the middle of the frame is not exactly what photographic textbooks suggest, but the obvious letter “X” formed by the clouds and iceberg was such strong motivation for me that I did not hesitate to break the rules for a single moment.
